What Is A PEO?

A professional employer organization (PEO) provides integrated services to effectively manage critical human resource responsibilities and employer risks for clients. A PEO provides a service under which an employer can outsource employee management tasks, such as employee benefits, payroll and workers’ compensation.

How the FIU/PEO Group relationship came about:

The FIU Alumni Association/The PEO Group partnership began as an idea when Kenneth Orr, Founder of The PEO Group and Alumni Lifetime Member, class of 1977 School of Hospitality & Tourism Management approached Duane Wiles, Associate Vice President, Alumni Relations & Executive Director of the FIU Alumni Association approximately 5 years ago with a way to establish a potential win-win solution for business owners that are Alumni/Supporters and friends of FIU, but also for the Alumni Association as well. This was a way to thank FIU for the role it had played in his life, as well as to help his alma mater further its goals as it moves forward with an eye toward future expansion needs and specific FIU Projects and goals.

Ken’s concept was conceived on the basis that a large percentage of FIU alumni are residing in the South Florida area and that many are in decision-making roles within their respective companies. Many of these organizations, outside of, and within the hospitality marketplace, presently utilize the services of Professional Employer Organizations (PEO).

The thinking was: might it not be a good idea for FIU to introduce a PEO of national stature, solid financials and a history of strong client-retention, to alumni and to business friends of the Alumni Association who may want to learn more which would benefit the business owner and the FIU Alumni Association at the same time.
